Knotty Pine
A Short Play
A woodworking father teaches his son his love for his craft, and the two make a small
table together, signing their names under the top. The play follows the table through all of
its eventual owners, and its return to the son a lifetime later.

Set and Costuming
Modern day costuming. Set is simple throughout, with actors under spot lighting: father
and son making a table; man and woman at a kitchen table; a woman and young girl
playing a game on a small table; a woman and her son talking over a small table; elderly
woman with the same small table; a bed with the small table next to it; a woman, a man
and the table; and two old men playing chess.
Production history
Staged reading at the Bug Theatre in Denver for the Colorado Actors and Screenwriter’s
Assembly many years ago. Unproduced to date.
